What counts as toxic here

Based on Gottman's Four Horsemen. We score communication patterns, not "someone is upset."

Criticism Character attack: "you always / you never / you're so…"
Contempt Mockery, name-calling, moral superiority, eye-roll energy
Defensiveness Reverse blame, "yeah but YOU," playing victim to dodge
Stonewall / guilt Shutdown threats, silent-treatment leverage, scorekeeping
Not toxic Soft startup, repair, boundary, factual complaint, apology, logistics
Easy to misread Firm + dry is not contempt. A complaint about a deed is not an attack on character

How scoring works

Your % is only about spotting toxics: correct toxic tags divided by how many toxics are in this chat. Tagging a clean message as toxic costs 2% each. Waiting on a clean message does nothing to the score. Miss a toxic and that catch is gone.

Judgy sits at a fixed 80% bar for that chat. Beat his number.

Where the chats come from

Day-to-day text threads written for the game: partner fights, roommate money, group chats, work Slack, family. Patterns track research on criticism, contempt, defensiveness, stonewalling, guilt, and scorekeeping - not movie scripts.
